Spotted! New L'Oreal The Magic Top Coat at Walgreens

We've been seeing this trend of snazzy top coats for a while now. Think Nail Inc. Feather Nails, Zoya Fleck Effect, Revlon Moon Candy and the overwhelming matte top coats from just about every brand. This new display from L'Oreal boasts some new colors, but the main attraction is "The Magic Top Coats".

I will say that I am disappointed with L'Oreal's choice to come out with a matte top coat. They are SO far behind the curve on that one that it just feels like a halfhearted attempt to get their place on the matte polish spectrum. I have so many matte top coats, and so far have not really noticed much of a difference between them, so I will not be purchasing that one. In my opinion L'Oreal should have come up with something REALLY original instead.

Now, I did pick up 3 polishes from this display. For once I actually wasn't going to even BUY polishes but somehow I dropped a bottle, it shattered and after helping clean it up I felt so bad that I felt like I HAD to because the workers were so nice. *Le Sigh* #nailaddictproblems

The good thing is that I have been saving my Walgreens points up for so long that I only had to pay $2.48 out of pocket. So save up those points!

The ones I got are:
803- The Sparklicious - I don't have anything like it. It is black and silver bar and hex glitter in a clear base. I can already tell it is going to be one of those that needs to be "patted" on to get any real payoff, but it would be nice to quickly spice up a mani mid week.

801- The True Gold - I am 100% a gold polish fanatic so I had to pick this one up. It is fine gold glitter in a clear base. Remember these are all top coats so don't expect to get this opaque in just a few coats. Setting down a gold base coat and putting a few coats of The True Gold over it would probably work, but I LOVE gold glitter gradients. Especially for fall so that is what I will be using it for mostly.

And FINALLY the one that I am MOST excited for:
804- The Holographic- Now I think this name is misleading because it is actually a flakie. Now it is an original flakie, I will give it that. I haven't seen this particular type of iridescence in a flakie polish yet. At least not in any of the ones in my collection.

I'm sorry that this picture is kind of grainy, but just to give you an idea of what other top coats are in the display:
There is a pink tinged  polish that looks like it is supposed to give a different affect as you turn your nail. Personally I wasn't a huge fan because it looks thick enough to actually affect the color underneath and I don't want to have to be thinking about that too much.

There was a shimmery polish in a milky white base, obviously meant to add shimmer to any polish but I have seen it before in cheaper lines. And the last one that I did not pick up is the matte top coat.

Spotted! Zoya Zenith collection released today!

Let me make something clear.

I. LOVE. ZOYA. NAIL POLISH.

I can't say it any more clearly than that. I have yet to try a Zoya polish that I completely disliked. I will be honest, as I always am when reviewing, there have  been a few that I was not completely pleased with, but I did not dislike them to the point that I refused to continue using them, or regretted purchasing them.

I am SO excited to announce that the Zoya Zenith 2013 collection has just gone live!!!

Sinful Colors Blue by You vs. ORLY Royal Navy comparison and video

As I sit here writing this blog post I am reminded why I want my own stretch of land far, far away from anyone else. Today is a perfectly lovely day, nice breeze blowing and some clouds. Oh yeah, and then there is my neighbor across the street with the doors on his beat up jeep wide open, blaring "music" so dang loud that my walls and windows are rattling.

I am going to repeat that just so there is no confusion: the walls and windows of my house, are RATTLING. Because some inconsiderate window licking douche nozzle has decided it is ok to flood the world with "musical" noxious clouds of obscenities and misogynistic hate.

Anyway, this ex-con isn't going to change any time soon; this is NOT the first time this has happened. I'll just have to hope his meth lab gets discovered... or blows up. He's woken me up so many times now that I'll take either one. #sarcasm (kind of...)

ANYWHO!

I have another video up! Yay! Click here for a direct link!

This video is comparing Sinful Colors Blue By You to ORLY Royal Navy. Sometimes I will look at colors in my collection and think "I already have you... why do I have more than one of you in different brands?!" The answer is because I am a nail polish addict.

I am CEO, Queen and Grand Royal Empress of La Lacquer League.

That doesn't mean that Her Royal Highness doesn't like a good deal! And I KNOW I can't be the only one! So I am going to be swatching different colors in my collection side by side to see if they really are dups for each other. Just because they look the same in the bottle doesn't mean that they actually are. We are all familiar with finding a polish that is BEAUTIFUL in the bottle and suddenly an evil stepsister when it gets on your nail.

I also don't believe that being the same color in the end constitutes a dupe. At least not in my book. The end result might be similar, or exactly the same, but what if the higher end polish only required 1-2 coats while the lower end polish required 4-5. Personally, that is a big enough gap that I would still purchase the higher end product. We all know how long it takes for 4+ coats of polish to dry!

That is why I am not just going to show you final results but actually record videos of the application process. You can see exactly how it applies and then judge the final result for yourself.

Left: Sinful Colors Blue by You, Right: ORLY Royal Navy
I truly had to try very hard to get this picture. The ORLY polish IS darker than the Sinful Colors polish, but it is by such a small amount that it is hardly noticeable. The Sinful Colors polish is not a perfect dupe for the ORLY polish, however, I feel that it is close enough.

Based on the price, application, color and finish, I suggest the Sinful Colors polish. The ORLY polish is so much more expensive and I did not feel like it truly delivered something that was worth the increase in price. Unless you are truly on a journey of collecting polish, you will be just fine with only one of these in your stash.
